Family Portraits at Mercer Arboretum  are an annual tradition for many families. The gardens are right on the edge between Humble and Spring, TX.  Although the address says Humble, to me this is the Spring area. The gardens are beautiful and you’ll always find something new planted at Mercer Arboretum. You could have an annual session there with your family and always find a new beautiful spot for your portrait. Depending on the current development cycle at the gardens we may shoot in the rear near the Japanese-style tea garden, in the middle near the formal rows of cypress trees, or in the font more rustic areas highlighted by a dry river bed or lovely flagstone patio. If you’re lucky you could be there during the tulip blooming season or one day when the formal column waterfall is turned on. You never know what days it will be flowing, but it does make a beautiful backdrop even when turned off. These family portraits at Mercer Arboretum pictured below took advantage of one of my favorite locations, a wood bridge over a dry river bed as well as a new flagstone area on the south side of the park. The park is best for an early morning session or later in the evening in the golden hour. If you are selective about the locations that you take photos in you can still make a late morning session work, but they do not allow any flash or lighting equipment so you will be more limited on your poses if you can’t do early morning or early evening. If you do have a large group, this is a good place to take photos because of the variety and the available parking. You might even want to allow for extra time after your session to walk around and enjoy the park. It really is a hidden gem for harris county that is worth a visit.
